Just wanted to follow up with Chad's point - I agree that Jamie really knows what she wants to project in terms of a personal brand and that the Twitter site truly reflects her personality.

I also like the part where she said she knows some companies won't like the brand she's projecting, but that she's fine with it because then she's knows upfront that it's not a good fit. That advice indicates wisdom beyond years, and makes me question what people are so afraid of.

Jamie is my new rock goddess! I love these stories where someone is clear about their purpose, can tell a story, engages with an audience, inspires others and then takes some action! These are the people ANY company wants to hire...passionate, bold, daring, action oriented and purposeful!

Tonight CNBC is airing a highly publicized and obnoxiously over dramatic special entitled: Where Are The Jobs? Everyone who watches the show tonight for advice would be better off reading this blog for a couple hours and attacking the market like Jamie Varon has!

As to Jamie's approach being too risky -- perhaps, but she is comfortable with her decisions and that is all that matters. She will undoubtedly put off some people, but it's impossible to please everyone in the world. I think her approach promotes her personal brand attributes quite well, and it's my bet she will eventually land a job with Twitter!

Go Jamie!

I'm actually writing another post about crazy job tactics, and one thing I noticed was that these types of promotion do a lot to get you attention, but after that you are still in the same applicant pool. So a website or a podcast replaces your resume, but it doesn't take you all the way to the job offer.

Anyway, thanks to Jamie for answering these questions honestly - the answers really impressed me.

interesting interview, very interesting to hear these answers. In this economy (or any econ really), taking risks like these and getting attention from the right people can be very helpful. I don't think I'd personally be comfortable with some of the stuff that Jamie has put out there, but she seems to have good reasons for her approach and can confidently back it up. In my experience, employers respond to someone who can make a good argument for their approach, so I think she's in good shape here. Certainly sounds like she has some good options

Monica, great article here. I think being daring/balzy could attract some good attention, but it's also risky at the same time. I think it depends how you position yourself, what the market is and what your goals are.
