This is an interesting twist on the power of Rapport.
Personal brands resonate more powerfully if it helps the customer feel more personally connected , as if they feel they know, like and trust you because you are similar to me.
The cool factor trades on an even more compelling drive, for people to connect with who they WANT to BE, to somehow, even for a moment, live vicariously through the admirable lives of others.
its an escape from the boredom and rules of mundane life.

"Cool", like "Expert", is a strange thing in that even if self-proclamation is justified, there's an unspoken taboo against calling yourself it. (Even moreso than other words like "Awesome".)

In electronic music-making tools, Ableton Live is cool. Their branding, personality, and even video tutorials all ooze style — and they have a lot of substance, too. There haven't been a lot of social media bridges built, in part because bedroom boffins tend to be insular (I celebrate treasured exceptions), but more people would do well to take notice.

The flipside of cool: try too hard and people will YouTube-comment you as "lame". It can *be* hard, but it often has to *look* easy. Ah, perception.
