Who is Gary Vaynerchuk?Gary Vaynerchuk

From a platform as co-owner and Director of Operations of Wine Library, a wine retail shop in Springfield, New Jersey, Vaynerchuk gained widespread notoriety as the host of Wine Library TV, a daily internet webcast on the subject of wine. Vaynerchuk’s informal and “hyperkinetic” style is in contrast to conservative wine industry norms, but resonates with a younger demographic and has found a significant following among groups who have previously found the wine-world inaccessible. He has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, GQ, and Time, appeared on Late Night with Conan O’Brien and Ellen, WLTV has been called “must-see underground TV”, while Vaynerchuk himself has been described as “the first wine guru of the Web video era”, and by Rob Newsom, a Washington State wine maker, “outside of Robert Parker, probably the most influential wine critic in the United States.”

Personal Branding Quotes:

  • “We are fundamentally in a gold rush right now. Hollywood understands that their next whord of celebrities will be from the internet.”

  • “You are your brand. Today your selling hoses, tomorrow your selling under pants. ”

  • “A lot of you are continuing to build the brand of people that are bigger than you in the world.”

  • “You don’t need endorsements from people in the same game as you that are ahead of you. You need to differentiate yourself and establish yourself.”

YOU are the Celebrity

Hollywood celebrities are known by more people than the lesser micro-celebrities. A micro-celebrity caters to a niche audience of people. Hollywood celebrities are only celebrities at that level because they are viewed by the largest audience. Think about it, the amount of eyes attached to certain TV channels and shows is so high that they can the exposure most of us cannot. As for us micro-celebrities, we aim to capture the attention of those that matter to us. Gary’s 3rd quote, which is listed above, makes a whole lot of sense to me. If you worship anyone, you should worship yourself. Love yourself because once you do, it will attract others. Just don’t go overboard by always talking about yourself. We all have the ability to claim our niche, to serve them, to be known by them and to become a celebrity to them.

It’s within us all waiting to be pushed out.

Gary Vay-Ner-Chuk is the person who introduced me to the power of personal branding a short time ago. I enjoy wine, but only drink it on occasion, yet I watch his show every day. I think that’s a big statement to how well he’s branded himself. Instead of seeking an internet wine reviewer and finding Gary, I found Gary who then introduced me to wine.

First, he sold me on himself – then he sold me on his passion.
