Nice post, Beverly. I think there are two important points that you bring up: measuring personal brand (which is something I don't think much about, but should) and monitoring the brand via listening/alerts, etc. You appropriately identify the "big question" of measuring the value. I'd love to see a follow-up post on just that section. My 2 cents? Measure by impact (# followers, # impressions online) and influence (# people you can persuade to act). Beth Kanter has been writing about the subject of personal influence lately, as well.

Number of folowership may be good, but the quality of relationship sounds greater as well as pay greater dividend for personal branding relationship that rocks. investment and if possible divestment in quality relationship building is key. Keep giving helping hands until you get a loyal advocates who are willing to do anything for your personal brand because you have turned their lives around.
Beverly thanks for this great piece.

Totally agree with Beverly. Brand development in our design business is all about discovering the distinctive and compelling truth about a company and then projecting this in a way that is authentic and truly engaging. Likewise for personal branding, it can't be a shallow 'makeover' but has to be a process that starts with the discovery and communication of a FOUNDATION IDEA. People as brands will be increasingly important as our trust in 'old institutions' continues to diminish.

So long as personal brands identify and hold dear to their values then their future will be bright, happy and successful.

Beverly, you nailed this post. It's time for people to invest and reinvest in themselves. The more time you spend on doing things to support your future growth and brand equity, the better off you'll be later. People want to do business with brands they trust, so you'll be top-of-mind for "purchases" to come!
