This line in particular caught my attention & laughter. Nice one Liz. " ... we’re less likely to get help for it by screaming like a five-year old ...."

Most of the issues in networking that I can think of start with not being apprecaitive and taken the relationship for granted. When one follow up a lead from another and it comes out successfully, most often we assume the person will understand because he/she is a friend.Being appreciative of the effort even if it does not work out will go a long way next time one needs further help. Thanks a lot lot Liz

Thanks Liz. Social Intelligence has always been a character default of mine. I love the idea of networking, and I'm starting to understand just how important it is these days. I chose "<a>The Power of Women United</a>" book as my resource to learn how to build confidence and start living my dreams and goals. Networking will be a big part of that.

I was just guilty of requesting a 2-hour lunch for an entirely different subject. Perfect timing! :) In my role, I often get requests from former clients and coworkers who have come upon hard times as well as others seeking to get a foot into the door. While I would love to help everyone, you are correct, I just don't have a 1000 job openings in my back pocket. Building and maintaining relationships, or one's network, is essential long before the need arises. Relationships are at the core of networking, It has to be give and take. One should look to add value and server others always. Then when the need arises, the "ask" is much easier. Again, good food for though. Thanks.

I think this is a lost art among networkers out there. A lot of people are trying to build a network but never seem to know how to use it. This is a great article to get people started and make them more comfortable in doing so.
