Great post, Katie and spot on. One of the best techniques for engaging big wigs is interviewing them. They love to get the word out, so when you interview them and give them publicity, they love it and support you back.

Another great, well-written post. The acorn does not fall far from the tree.

Katie,Your piece is spot on. If a personal branding is in the good book of big wigs in his industries, the grace upon them usually rob off on you. Just one introduction through one of them can be the big break long awaited.
Recommending your mother is not bad also. if she deserves it, she is worth mentioning irrespective of your relationship with her.

Definitely a great article! I loved what you said about "Whether we like to admit it or not the world is a lot like high school." We associate celebrity status with how viable we percieve something. When was the last time you went and saw an indie film with no name actors? You go see films because of the big names that are in them. Same goes for many things in life.

With social media it''s not always about who you know but about who you appear to know.

Katie, I also learned MC Hammer has one of the most popular followings in the SoundCloud community!

One cool tidbit I learned from Rohit Bhargava (who's been featured here before) is that Tim Ferriss helped him get his book underway. That's a fantastic example. I'm always intrigued in learning about someone's growth, and how they went from being considered "unknown" to "famous". It's interesting that humans try to frame these as discrete states as there's really a continuum in-between.

The well-to-do flipside of this, of course, is to not fall for the psychological mindjail of superficial stardom — it will leave you unsatisfied. And as you continue to achieve success, help boost others. But be wary of social media snake oil salespeople that promise much, but don't deliver (more details @ http://www.wisebread.com/7-ways-to-spot-a-social-media-snake-oil-salesperson )

Katie, excellent post and I wish I would have blogged about this beforehand, but you beat me to it. I'm in full agreement that connecting yourself with other successful people is imperative. When your brand is associated with theirs, it boosts yours.

Hi Katie,

Greetings from Buenos Aires! Very good post. Connect, connect, connect!

I spent the past three months turning the Creative Whack Pack card deck into an Iphone App.

Apple reviewed it, and it just went on sale several days ago at the App Store. I'm quite excited.

For more info, check out the Creative Whack Pack at the App store or

Best wishes to you and your many readers!
