Good post Maria. I especially like your 2nd point, “Know your branding strategy.” As entrepreneurs, we already have a business plan (I would hope.) And we already have a marketing plan. These have been staples in business for decades. However, one must have a well thought out, well laid out personal branding strategy/plan as well. If we fail to write out a formal personal branding plan, then we don’t take it seriously.

For example, we have been conditioned to write out business plans. It’s just part of our career, it’s part of what we do. The same can be said about marketing plans. It’s part of our career, it’s what we do. Writing a business plan and marketing plan FEELS like we’re doing business and it SOUNDS like we’re doing business. Therefore we take it seriously, as we should. But we falter on the personal branding side. And what happens? Pictures of us getting tanked with our friends show up on Facebook and our personal brand is tarnished. Why? Because you let somebody else create your personal brand. Silly.

So take your personal branding strategy seriously. It’s more important now, in the 21st century, then ever.

Again, great post Maria. Thank you for your insight.

      Shane
